Winter Game in Kabul
The new generation of Afghans no longer want to follow the same career path of their parents, playing soccer is one of them and it is a new thing in the country. It is winter in Afghanistan and these youngsters enjoy playing soccer in the snow while their old parents might be busy in games like cock fighting, dog fighting and numerous other animal fighting. The building in the background is called “Darul Aman Palace.” It was built early in the 1920s by Amanullah Khan, an ambitious modernizer who wanted to modernize Afghanistan overnight. The European style palace destroyed during the 1990s civil war. Amanullah spent tones of money on this kind of building and other palatial houses, regardless of severe poverty in the country. Amanullah Khan, like many other Afghan Kings was ignorant and had lofty plans for a progressive Afghanistan, which was not applicable at the time. Nevertheless, he was an open-minded person who traveled around the world and wished to make Afghanistan a modern one. Alas, it he was dreaming, like many Afghans who dreamt and dreaming but unlike, Afghanistan is reversing back to Stone Age.
